Herbal Essentials

An in-depth exploration of many facets of herbalism through focusing on single herbs. Each month we will work with a small group of medicinal plants growing in the CSHS garden. We will look at the herbs from many angles including botanical, therapeutic, energetic, historical and magical.
Each class will include hands-on medicinal preparations such as salves, hydrosols and tinctures. We will also discuss medicinal plant cultivation: seed gathering and planting. There will be time for one-on-one interaction with the herbs in the CSHS garden. This course promises to be a unique and intimate herbal experience!


Plant Communication - Reclaiming Our Birth-rite

Plants are the most successful organisms on the planet and unlike animals, including humans, have the unique ability to create food, oxygen and tissue from sunlight. The latest scientific research shows that they are intelligent beings who have the capacity to store enormous amounts of information while being highly efficient in communicating and making decisions. Indigenous healers have known this about plants for centuries and have recognized that it is actually the spirit of the plants that does the communicating and healing. During this three day intensive we will explore both science and traditional knowledge to learn how to communicate with plants and translate their message. Through entering the daydream of the plant and through traditional dream journeying we will come to understand the spirit of the plant and how it can serve as a guide, ally and friend helping us in our lives and other’s with everything from serious physical illness to making decisions in our lives to bringing a greater sense of well being. Join us as we learn how to come into balanced alignment, listen deeply and commune with spirit via the green beings.

This experiential long weekend will include:

  • building relationship with plants through sensual awareness
  • receiving the resonant signature of the plant through felt sense
  • communication through light, sound and breath
  • stepping into the daydream of plants
  • traditional shamanic journeying
  • receiving a personal plant ally
  • the highly acclaimed “Greenbreath” which combines transformational breathwork with focused breathing with a plant.


Physiology for Herbalists

Tuition: $325 - $275 Sliding Scale

This is a basic physiology class for those interested in grounding their understanding of how the human body works. We will cover cellular structure and metabolism, tissue types, the governing principles of homeostasis as well as the basic functioning of the Digestive, Cardiovascular, Respiratory, Urinary and Reproductive Systems.  This class is offered in 8 sessions of 3 hours and will be lecture with power-point visuals and handouts.
No prerequisites or previous study required.

Fall - Herbal Essentials

Class Dates: September 20, October 4, 11, 25 and November 8
Tuition: $325 - $275 Sliding Scale

This course is a fall version of our very popular Spring Essentials. In the course we will provide an overview of western herbalism.  We will cover the current western constitutional model of health-care, practical perspectives in holistic herbalism and aromatic medicine. We will discuss basic therapeutic strategies and what must be included in your essential herbal medicine chest. – Specifically we will discuss herbal remedies as tonics and acute remedies for the fall and winter seasons.  There will be demonstration and instruction in basic medicine making and a wonderful class on cooking with medicinal herbs.  Recipes, samples and lots of tastings!  This course is appropriate for those who have already taken the Spring Essentials courses, and for those new to herbalism.

 
  


The Herbalist in Practice

Class Dates: October 16 -17, November 6-7 and December 4 & 5
10am - 4pm each day
Tuition: $545 - $495 Sliding Scale

This is an advanced course for herbalists who want to learn tongue diagnosis and how to evaluate a client using an integration of both Ayurvedic and Chinese diagnostic systems. We will also cover how to support healthy digestion and work with clients with Celiac disorder, IBS, and Type II Diabetes. We will cover how to support Vitality and the use of building foods and herbs. This is a very experiential program.  Case
studies, herbs, and formulation will be discussed
