Flower Power

Have you ever wanted to know how to identify the medicinal plants, wild flowers and trees in your area? In this class we will focus on learning the empowering art and skill of using plant identification books. We will meet in various sites from the garden at CSHS to Annadel State Park in Santa Rosa to witness the spring unfold. Each class will build on the previous one as you become more familiar with plant families, botany terms and using plant identification keys.
Herbal Essentials
with Gail Julian and Autumn Summers Friday afternoons 2pm - 6pm
Class Dates: April 11 & 25, May 9 & 23, June 6 & 20.

An in-depth exploration of many facets of herbalism through focusing on single herbs. Each month we will work with a small group of medicinal plants growing in the CSHS garden. We will look at the herbs from many angles including botanical, therapeutic, energetic, historical and magical.
Each class will include hands-on medicinal preparations such as salves, hydrosols and tinctures. We will also discuss medicinal plant cultivation: seed gathering and planting. There will be time for one-on-one interaction with the herbs in the CSHS garden. This course promises to be a unique and intimate herbal experience!
Sierra Herbal Camping Trip

$295 - $250 sliding scale
Join us in the beautiful high Sierra Toyaibe National Forest. We camp next to snow fed Forestdale Creek at 7000 feet. The lodgepole pine, red fir forest and adjacent meadows are abundant with medicinal plants. The trip includes a 5 mile hike near Carson Pass, harvesting Arnica and getting to know many other Sierra plants. Topics covered include materia medica, flower essences, wildcrafting ethics, and plant identification. Our group camp is in a rustic and undeveloped area. We provide vegetarian dinners and breakfasts from Friday dinner to Monday breakfast. Bring your own lunches, water, and medicine making supplies. Meets at campsite Friday at 6pm to Monday at 10am. Maps and suggested packing list provided upon registration.
